The average price of Bangladeshi teas rose by almost 1 percent to 159.28 taka ($2.30) per kg at the weekly action on Tuesday, brokers said. Nearly 1.40 million kg were sold on average at 159.28 taka per kg, up 1.52 taka from the last sale. Some 16 percent of teas on offer remained unsold and were taken back.

Bangladeshi buyers including exporters mainly to the Commonwealth of Independent States and Pakistan, participated in the sale at the country's lone auction centre in the main port city Chittagong.

"Good liquoring teas fetched higher prices compared to the last sale, while plainer varieties either eased or remained unsold," said an executive of the National Brokers Limited, the largest tea broking firm of the country. Different grades were sold between 105 taka and 185 taka per kg in the general auction.

In an exclusive sale for good liquoring teas some 300 kg of Golden Broken Orange Pekoe realised the highest price of 221 taka per kg, followed by another 350 kg of Churamoni Dust and 750 kg of Pekoe Fannings selling at 211 taka and 193 taka per kg respectively.
